Selfless Self-Love

At some point in time, we were all culpable of a haughty spirit. The time we judge and pump ourselves up over others based on our own perceptions of how we’re better than that other person. This is the selfish self-love as we do it for ourselves to make us feel superior, more important and better.

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

    - Philippians 2:3 NKJV

…to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

    - Romans 12:3 NKJV

In today's America, pride in one's self is pushed constantly and has become more accepted by all as an okay form of behavior, which led to it being praised. Of course that leads to the separation of praising God and His Will. This separation will continue to grow and cause us not to be able to love our neighbors.

When we plan out things in life, we believe in ourselves more than anything, but leave God out of it. Including God allows us more security and assurance that it’ll all work out and most importantly, we’ll make the right decisions according to God. That comes with the ability and willingness to have faith and listen to what God is telling you. Things become much easier with the truth that God brings to us and our hearts will feel at peace as we know we’re doing His Will.

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.

    - 2 Corinthians 3:5 NKJV

Nothing is secret from God for he knows all about us; all the arrogant ways and judgemental thoughts we have. We have to ask Him for forgiveness and to humble our spirits. It’s a process and that’s because humility is more than ridding of arrogance and boastfulness, it is to submit fully before God; knowing His Will and Law, being dependent on Him in order for us to live in godliness.

In turn, we find ourselves doing His Will, which allows us to feel self-love due to our hearts being at peace knowing that we are pleasing Him and living righteously in His name.

For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

    - 1 John 3:20 NKJV
